Copper and Power Guide

Copper is a solid material in Sandustry that opens the power and energy storage branch of the game. Unlike gold which funds research, copper powers your factory’s portable energy systems through Power Bricks — rechargeable battery molds that store Florinol energy for mobile use. This guide covers where to find Copper Ore, how to smelt it, and the full power logistics chain.

Where to find Copper Ore

Copper Ore spawns embedded in stone underground, typically in cavern systems and labyrinthine tunnels beneath the surface. Unlike Sand, Wet Sand, or Gold which you can extract with basic tools, Copper Ore requires a drill to mine. Look for the distinctive copper-colored deposits in mid-depth rock layers — they often appear near lava veins and RedSand zones.

Community reports indicate Copper Ore commonly appears in:

  • Cavern systems with stone walls
  • Near lava chambers at mid-depth
  • Adjacent to RedSand deposits
  • In rock layers below the initial sand band

How to mine Copper Ore

You need a drill to extract Copper Ore — basic digging tools will not work. Once you have a drill research unlock, position yourself adjacent to copper deposits and drill through the stone to release the ore. The drill is a slower process compared to basic sand mining, so budget time when planning large-scale copper operations.

Smelting Copper into Liquid Copper

Raw Copper Ore must be processed through a Smelter to become usable Liquid Copper. The Smelter consumes heat — either from lava proximity or a dedicated heat source — to melt solid copper into its liquid form. You cannot melt copper with a Flamethrower alone; the Smelter building is required.

The smelting process:

  1. Mine Copper Ore with a drill
  2. Transport Copper Ore to a Smelter
  3. Apply heat to melt ore into Liquid Copper
  4. Route Liquid Copper through pipes to casting molds

Liquid Copper logistics

Once molten, Liquid Copper behaves like other fluids in Sandustry — it flows through pipes, can be pumped, and requires temperature management to stay liquid during transport. Use Pipes, Pumps, and Liquid Vents to route Liquid Copper from your Smelter to casting stations. Avoid letting Liquid Copper cool and solidify in pipes, as this can cause blockages.

Power Bricks and energy storage

The primary use for Liquid Copper in late-game Sandustry is casting Power Bricks — high-capacity rechargeable battery molds that store Florinol energy. Power Bricks provide portable energy storage for tools, drones, and mobile factory operations.

To craft Power Bricks:

  1. Smelt Copper Ore into Liquid Copper
  2. Route Liquid Copper to a casting mold
  3. Allow the mold to cool and solidify
  4. Charge the Power Brick with Florinol from a Florin source

Copper and filters

Because Sand and Copper Ore are often found together in the same cavern systems, you can use the same logistics infrastructure — conveyors and pipes — to bring both materials to your factory. Use Filters to separate Copper from other materials based on density differences before routing to different processing lines.

How copper connects to other systems

Copper and power tie into several late-game systems:

  • Florinol Energy — Power Bricks store Florinol for portable power
  • Smelter building — Required for all copper smelting
  • Liquid logistics — Pipes and pumps move molten copper
  • Filter separation — Copper density allows separation from sand and slag
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Sandustry questions.

Where do I find Copper Ore in Sandustry?

Copper Ore spawns in stone underground, typically in cavern systems near lava chambers and RedSand zones. You need a drill to mine it — basic tools will not work.

How do I smelt Copper into Liquid Copper?

Route Copper Ore to a Smelter building with a heat source. The Smelter melts the ore into Liquid Copper, which you then transport via pipes to casting molds.

What are Power Bricks used for?

Power Bricks are rechargeable battery molds that store Florinol energy. They provide portable power for tools, drones, and mobile factory operations in late-game Sandustry.

Can I use a Flamethrower to melt Copper?

No. You cannot melt Copper with flames alone. The Smelter building is required to process Copper Ore into Liquid Copper.

How do I separate Copper from Sand in logistics?

Use Filters to separate materials based on density differences. Copper and Sand often appear together in caverns, so Filters let you route each to the correct processing line.
